Hornsby, a suburb of the Upper North Shore

Located 25 kilometres north west of the Sydney C.B.D. Hornsby is a suburb of the “Upper North Shore“. Hornsby is the administrative centre of the Hornsby Shire.

Hornsby, how it got it's name

On the 22nd of June 1830 Samuel Henry Horne, a convict turned constable, assisted in the capture of 2 bushrangers. As a reward he was granted land which he named Hornsby Place.

European Settlers

Thomas Higgins was the first European to seetle in Hornsby after beeing given land in what was then known as “Old Mans Valley”. In 1864 a post office was opened.

Population.

In 2016 the population of Hornsby was recorded at 22,168 with the median age being 36 years. 49% male and 51% female.
